Mister Sunshine

Back in my town all the kids around
Say, "Hey, there's Mister Sunshine"
Just this old guy, always had a smile
And happy face stickers or some candy for a crying child
Worked at the grocery store thirty years or more
Everybody knows Mister Sunshine

Have you heard the news, they say
Mister Sunshine died today
And the sky went gray

Just a normal day like any other day
The last one for Mister Sunshine
Helping Mrs. Green with her groceries
Little Imogene stepped into the street
Some hot rodding fool thinking he was cool
No one saw him but Mister Sunshine

Have you heard the news, they say
Mister Sunshine died today
And the sky went gray

On the evening news, channel forty two
Lead story was "Hero Saves Child"
You know, I never knew his name was Larry, did you
Took care of Mary Rose his wife who had a stroke
He fought back in the War, got a Silver Star
Everbody loves Mister Sunshine
