Missing Mandy

I went to the beach, covered with fog.
She was s'posed to be here. Where is my dog?
I looked toward the West, at the blue sea,
but there was no dog waiting for me,
just a few ships that passed in the night,
like me and my Mandy, no longer in sight.
Please, be a dream. Please, let me be waking.
Oh, Mandy, can't you see, my poor heart is breaking.

Haha, I like that name! Here's the story. A good friend of mine was working with a company that sets up people with dogs. She was expecting to get one of those breeds that was bred to be the indoor companions of royals. She was so looking forward to it, setting up a room, giving it a name after a Barry Manilow song, and then found that it was a scam company. She was heartbroken, and my unique way of showing empathy was to write a snarky poem for her. But in that version, the last couplet was Oh, Mandy can't you see my poor heart is breaking / because I was ripped off by a company that was flaking.
