Miscarriage Into Madness

She stares into the darkness
Talking to her friends
Sight unseen they beckon
That's where it all begins

A babe herself of sixteen years
A mother without a child
A miscarriage into madness
By voices now beguiled

She whispers to her unseen friends
As a smile crosses her face
A dimension void of sight and sound
A dark and lonely place

No one here can reach her
As she sits in silent bliss
An innocent soul in torment
Lost in the abyss

The voices continue beckoning
In the silence, without a sound
She tries to hold her unborn child
But he's nowhere to be found

On the edge of utter darkness
She cannot find the light
She slips into insanity
As a prisoner of the night

There are so many young women who have "unseen friends" only because there is no one around who seems to understand what they are going through. Sixteen and pregnant -- what a load to carry. Very moving poem, Larry. Love, Carolyn
