Minus My Mistress and My Midnight Moon

MINUS MY MISTRESS AND MIDNIGHT MOON

the mistress owned the midnight moon
alas the moon bowed tothe sun too soon
the mistress had claimed the dark at night
that morning mistress i named delight

the moon would dawn at her command
by her spark was the flame of daylight fanned
a mistress mainly magnificent in style
with a gorgeous grin granted by guile

too soon wouldst the moon be set
and i to fret and forget the eve we met
fades the memory of the moon's graceful glow
when high in the sky became sunken low

the moon knew by whom it was duly owned
the possession of a woman by beauty cloned
the lady owned the moon which made midnight bright
until the lady stole her moon from me and the night
