Mine To Give

When was it since we burned our bridges
as to the distant horizon we flew?
Time went so fast and how it slipped by,
sometimes we laughed, at times we cried.

You know I would not change even a bit,
I will never give you a cause for regret.
I promised to be always by your side,
that vow still stands and here I am.

As I stare at our little children at play,
I pause to think we’ve gone a long way.
When I look at our four naughty devils,
in them I see a lot of you and me.

Your crazy boys are so impossible,
my pretty girls drive me thru the wall.
To me you made these things happen
and I want to thank you all over again.

Standing with both hands in my pockets,
I look back at the footprints we made.
After all the years we have gone through,
I still love you and how I need you.

And now I sit with this pen in my hand
shaping words with a great, mighty wand.
Love seeps through and it’s mine to give
from this grateful heart straight to you.
