Mind and Memory
It's hard for me to remember how life used to be
Whether I liked to garden or sit in the chair swing by the tree.
I don't know if I liked fishing or not,
If camping was my thing,
Or writing...maybe not.
I can't quite remember if I know you,
What your name is, or even if I'll give you a second thought.
You look very familiar, but I don't remember who you are,
Yet I know that it feels nice to feel close, to sit and chat,
I hope you don't leave and go too far.
I need tender love and utmost care,
For I am struggling with dementia,
I didn't choose this - I wouldn't dare.
I hope you can love every bit of me,
Even though I'm not fully aware,
Of where I am, even now,
As I sit down for dinner in my everyday chair.
Deep down inside, I am still there,
So treat me with kindness and dignity,
Cherish me always - I am still in need of a
great life - that's made up of good times,
respect, fun, laughter, and care.
