Meru Mythology

Poachers and lumbermen illegally cleared wild animals and century-old trees in the Mt. Kenya forest; a sacred forest in Meru. Angered by this deeds, the Njuri Ncheke, council of elders, sacrificed a ram to the mountain gods, and from the gods' realm emerged a python-like snake! If any trespasser is bitten by the snake, he or she slowly turns to humus! There's a boy who tested the forest curse, and grazed his goats in the forest; they all died......! A poacher once chased a wild boar, only to be swallowed by a lake which was a grass field, only to become a grass field once again! Dear folks, don't try getting into the forest, without the blessings of the elders.....
