Mercury Transit

I noticed several telescopes As I was walking by Along the river; all were pointed At the morning sky. The reason? For a rare event When Mercury is seen In transit passing by the sun, Not part of its routine. It won’t be viewed again from here ‘Til 2049 When other eyes will get the chance; (But certainly not mine!) Without a telescope, I watched A clip upon my phone. A tiny freckle crawling On the sun was what was shown. To many, this was quite a thrill For science buffs to spot But I felt no excitement Seeing such a tiny dot.

I seen this on the news. I thought they needed to clean their camera lense. :)

A major celestial event - you tell the tale. Once I went to a "star party" in Coney Island and saw the moons around one of the giant planets. Peace & Love Matthew Anish

Astronomy has always fascinated me, Ilene. The night heavens in their beauty are beautiful to behold. Unfortunately clouds obscured any hope of seeing Mercury in its transit. BTW, it's the only planet that orbits the sun in reverse. / M

I'm sure the astronomers were delighted by the event but its not something that would have caught my eye ... until I read your wonderful poem:-) always a joy to read:-) I hope I am still around in 2049... my mum's great great aunt lived to 111 and 121 days and was in the Guinness book of records so longevity is in my genes:-) hugs Jan xx

The best part of my day is looking forward to and reading your afternoon postings. This was so much fun Ilene and I couldn't agree more.

If it doesn’t excite you now, I suppose it wouldn’t when you are near or over 100
