Mental Malaise

Suffused with wonderment, bubbling with curiosity, eager to know “Why”, Childhood was spent in the quest for knowledge, when years seemed to fly, I learnt to speak, to write, to walk, becoming adept in many an intricate art. I learnt Geography, Geometry, Chemistry too and literary verses by heart. My charged fertile brain is now futile, despite the precious gift I had got, Without any contribution to the world, I now wait to disintegrate and rot! Happiness then would gush out like the crystal pure water from a spring, Seeing myriad colors of the rainbow, or watching baby birdies take wing. . But now oblivious to the birds that chirp, or to the whispering of the tree, Wonders of the world I mindlessly reject, their attraction is lost on me. Life has become drab and sore, with nothing to look forward to, anymore; The wondrous ecstasy of life is past; future has little enchantment in store; If I could open up once more the rusted portals of my fossilized mind And let the refreshing breeze sanitize it—renewed interest I could find For a meaningful- fulfilled life, with an indomitable motivation to live, It would be my unalloyed reward---- and I’d have the potential to give. . If I can now discard the debilitating, unwarranted mental malaise, Life could be an exciting vibrant voyage rest of the ensuing days. It’s in the mind how we react, as our thoughts make us what we are. Instead of accepting our pitiable lot, we should reach out for the star.
