Memories of a Rhapsodic Child

Where lies that once rhapsodic child?
an innocent flame, a candle lit,
retreats to the sad comfort of~despair

Where warm ocean breezes, taunted and kissed,
salted mango trees, touched with turquoise
such an electric, eclectic~eclair

Whirlwinds whip, with a hint of citrus
a peaceful cove, a cauldroned coven,
where honeysuckle hung lush~in the air

What bitter wind, buggy whipped,
twisted, twister whorls, crumbled crisp
curls cut, now clean shaven~faulty heir

Lone tears swell, to tempt the tempered tide
floodgates open, a water main drains
that once rhapsodic child~disappears

For all the children whipped~by bitter-lipped memories
