Memories of a Hero
Imagine a rainbow with no colours
the sun looking grey instead of bright,
each day filled with memories of faces
and colours only show up at night.
You go to sleep surrounded by friends
but death is all you see when you awake,
frightened, tired, hungary and exhausted
you've had about as much as you can take.
Your orders are to stay alert and moving
forget the devastation that you saw,
keep your mind focused on the enemy
and try to stay alive through this war.
If you survive you will be a hero
but never forget those you lost,
you will keep reliving the memories of war
and all the human lives that it cost.
