Memories
Today’s a day for memories
For today we lose it all.
We step beyond the safety net
And finally stand tall.
We face a world that frightens us
For the possibilities
Are overwhelmingly enough
To cause us great unease.
By letting go of all we know
We are stepping into Now
And choosing which new paths to take;
The ones that don’t allow
The carryover of the past;
The things that only impede
The progress of our changing lives
And ever-growing need
To stand alone and reach for more;
To reach for our desires
And hold our truths in high esteem
Among the world’s liars.
Today’s a day for memories
For today is what remains
Before we step into this life
And face its many strains.
