Memorial Day
She stares down at the tombstone
Of her son who gave his all
Memories flow down off her cheek,
And silently they fall
She thinks about her helpless baby,
at the moment of his birth.
She hears his laughter as a toddler,
the sweetest sound on earth.
She remembers all the cuts and scrapes,
she made better with a kiss.
And the way he thought that" no",
was just a reason to persist.
She hears the words "I love you mom"
a thousand different ways.
And all those one on one times,
oh how she loved those days.
Memories are all she has left,
of her baby boy.
He gave his life for the freedom,
that we now enjoy.
So as we begin our summer,
with this Memorial Day,
remember all our freedom fighters
who gave their life, and pray.
Pray for the families
of those who know the cost,
of freedom in America,
by who they have lost.
Pray for our country,
that we will never forget.
It's because of God we are,
and we should never let
anyone take that away from us,
so many have had to fall.
For one nation under God
with liberty and justice for all.
