Memorial Day

In memory of those who died
Protecting liberty.
Recalling those who, for them, cried,
Their friends and family.
For answering our country’s call,
A debt we can’t repay,
Humbly we salute them all
On Memorial Day.

In war and peace our soldiers stand,
Just like our flag unfurled,
As symbols of our noble land
To all throughout the world.
And we who relish being free
Rise up in a display
In honoring their bravery
On Memorial Day.

For those who freely gave their lives,
For those who made it home,
For those who still for freedom strive,
Our gratitude is shown.
For those who stand and those who fall
To God above we pray.
We honor those who heed the call
On Memorial Day.

Humbly we salute them all
On Memorial Day.

Stephen, congrats on your placement in my contest. Your last two lines in this poem says it all. Especially the Humbly.
