Meant To Be Free

Long ago the white man said they owned all the land
 Pity they will never understand
The land is not theirs or ours to give
It is here for all of us to live
The Great Spirit put us here to live in harmony
For the land like us is meant to be free
To honor and respect her all our days
For like a good mother she takes care of us in many ways
But soon the white man was filled with greed
He wanted more that he really did need
They fenced the lands as far as we could see
They told us we were no longer free
 The lush forests and streams
Soon to us became a memory
The deer and buffalo all were gone
At times we wondered if we could continue to go on
They sent us to this barren land
Though many summers have past away
My people are no better off today
The ancient ones look down and ask the spirits why
No one hears our people's cries
Maybe one day the white man will see the error of his ways
But then again it only seems
It's just like all my other dreams
