Meaningless Bloviating

I need to be patient with some folks I know Who prattle on about nothing and loudly proclaim, They are experts on this or that … hot air they blow I suppose to acquire for themselves a bit of fame. To be known for blathering and loquaciousness, With no understanding of the value of dead silence Causes me utter consternation, I must confess, And sometimes almost provokes me to violence. I am too polite to say, “Will you please shut up!” My gut starts churning as they drone on and on With meaningless bloviating at a horse’s gallop, So, excusing myself, am to nearest restroom gone. written January 14, 2022

Now I have to relook this word up " loquaciousness," I know I have already looked it up eleven or twelve times, but I am not "getting" it.

Talkativeness! And, to your credit, I believe this poem hearkens back to a poem you wrote about a woman who prattled on and on...as best I can recall.

Methinks it must get crowded in that men's room. A friend of mine cautions: "beware of those educated beyond their intelligence"....

And so it is, John. I love your friend's way of putting it! Thanks for your insightful comments.

Thank you, Milton, for such a well-written poem on this exciting topic. Since most people lack years of schooling, I discover they contributed nothing to introduce other than bawdy humor. Or dull brief talk, and nothing unless supported them to utter.

I share your consternation, Milton. Good conversation I enjoy, but I discovered years ago that most people unless they have an education in at least the Liberal Arts have little to say except dumb or dirty jokes, insipid small talk, or just say nothing unless asked. I wrote a short poem on this sad subject as it relates to men. I'll post it if I can find it my files. Always appreciate your comments. / Maurice

Thanks, Maurice. I have a group of friends who gather at my home for dinner about twice a month. We call it a "summit meeting." We discuss at length some subject of interest that comes up in someone's mind. We never talk about any people, gossip, or small talk. Our conversation has to be substantive, and we respect the opinions of all, inspite of the fact that they range from liberal to conservative, from atheistic to theistic, etc.
