Maybe This Is the One

She put the pencil down for a second, pondering her next strokes.
The girl staring back at her was pondering, reflecting, thinking.
Her dark eyes were her most notable feature, eyebrows perfect.
She did not congratulate herself, for she was critical of her art.

Each drawing was an attempt to create that perfect canvas.
She picked up the pencil and added cat ears. They made her smile.
The girl retained her wiseness, but now there was a playful side.
She gazed thoughtfully at her creation, enticing her once again.

The artist put a neon pink rope next to the drawing.
The neon lighting reflected pink in several key spots.
Accentuating the girl’s chin, nose, and cheeks. It was pretty.
Maybe this is the one I have been trying for, the artist thought.

She put down her pencil and looked at the pensive woman.
The woman was growing more beautiful but her hair was too perfect
She picked up the pen and made her hair ridiculously shaggy.
That is brilliant her husband said as he leaned to look.
The artist rolled her eyes. What did he know?
