May the Child In All of Us Live To Play Another Day

I believe the child in us wants to come out to play
in our own special way
where we can be cherished and loved
In such caring way
So let us pray that day comes our way soon
.
To many moons have passed us by
Since our hearts were stuck on high
It seems like we were just getting started
When we found ourselves saying goodbye
As hard as I try to get by
without you, by my side,
I still, keep coming up with why
.
The harder I try to let it fly
The more it just makes me want to cry
I'm not one to pry or ask why
I'm the kind of guy who is going to play it wise
Oh, my Lord to my surprise as I open my eyes
Our day is here neither one of us needs to fear

As long as we keep our love in high gear
As it lights up our love year after year
We should enjoy the ride as it puts our life in stride
There is so much to come
As everything gets into a full glide
When our hearts will no doubt collide

When we come out on the other side
Our life will be filled with so much pride
Then the child inside of us
Will be released to come out to play
In our own special way today, and always I pray
Because soon you will be on your way to stay
So we can play every day in our own way

Such an important theme, Jack! "The child in us" is the key to everything, really, isn't it? We are our best selves, we learn best, we respond to others best, when that 'child' comes out. And interestingly, it's the good child that will come out when we're adults---not the "bad one" we all were on occasion (except the saints, of course). At any rate, I really enjoyed this one. Nice thought; nice poem! ~ gershon
