May 14, 2014
He went away,
on a beautiful spring day,
not a cloud in the sky,
and I often wonder why,
the weather was so nice and dry,
with the flowers all in bloom,
and the birds singing their
cheerful tune,
You see the cancer had invaded
his lungs and brain,
his vocal chords were paralyzed,
it should have rained...
Yes, it should have been raining,
and cloudy and gray,
the day Dad left us,
and passed away.

Cheryl, exceptionally touching and affecting with exactly the right feeling of irony. The closing four lines are especially/obviously effective. Nice work!

Thank you Skat, it'll be 2 years this May 14th…and June 2nd he would have turned 86 years old. He died while under hospice care at my parents home and I was at the house when he passed away. I knew it was going to happen soon but it just seems so surreal still...
