Notes About The Poem

Why are some people so cruel.

Man's Inhumanity

The inhumanity of Man is really quite atrocious.
He thinks himself intelligent, he thinks himself precocious.
And yet his acts of selfishness show inately he's unkind.
His sudden acts of cruelty can boggle lesser minds.

No animal will torture before it finally kills;
But Mankind on the other hand can really give one chills.
He loves to feel the power that he holds above the head,
Of any creature he may own if he chooses then it's dead;

Just because he is annoyed it barked or caused him trouble;
So he killed it in some painful way, he wouldn't take the trouble,
To find the beast another home where it's love would be returned,
For that's all it ever wanted, it's little heart still yearned,

For just a kindly word from him, a gentle hand, that's all,
A little comfort and some food and he was give his all,
To a man who didn't need to vent his imperfections,
Upon a helpless little beast who only wanted affection.

How did i miss commenting on this gem. No wonder you got POTD for it. Man is cruel, unkind, revengeful and insincere if he answers to my first three descriptions of him. Enjoyed your poem enormously, Congratulations on POTD - a beautiful write. Hugs, and blessings Judy! Jennifer

It breaks my heart when this happens. To "vent imperfections upon a helpless little beast, who only wanted affection" That is wrong in so many ways. You began by saying this- "Why are some people so cruel" I don't know my dear friend, but I wish it weren't so. Congratulations Judy, on Poem of the Day. ~ Brandy

Indeed, man is the only creature that kills just for sport. This is such a powerful poem, Judy! People who abuse animals will usually abuse other people. Many of our serial killers started out hurting small animals. What a great poem for POTD! Congratulations, Judy. It goes to my faves as well. Hugs, Carolyn

Well written Judy, highlighting mans inhumanity to animals, stories like that we often hear about. Animals kill to survive but man kills for pleasure. Congratulations on POTD, a well deserved honour. Tom

People that really have an appreciation over their pet shouldn't even have one. My Peanut is my family and of course he is spoiled. Enjoyed reading, Judy.

Thank you so much Eve. When I bought my German Shepherd, Major, My daughter found him for me. She told the breeder not to worry about not meeting me instead of her because she could guarantee he would be treated like a child and not a dog. In truth he never knew his whole life that he was a dog. Thanks bunches, God Bless, JB

I appreciate your poem very much. I've been volunteering for an animal rescue group for some time now and have seen first hand the atrocities of which your poem speaks. I think former French President Charles de Gaulle said it best, "The better I get to know men, the more I find myself loving dogs."

Good point. I wondered who said that first. I have a sign on the front of my car that says: THE MORE PEOPLE I MEET THE MORE I LIKE MY DOG. Thanks bunches my friend. God Bless, JB

Dearest Judy, you have raised one of the most ancient questions: The inhumanity of Man and you have done so in a magnificent way. Plato and Sophocles have asked the same question and answered that Man is the most ferocious of animals. Unfortunately, one of the seven Greek sages, Viadas his name declared that not some but most men are evil! Excellent work! Blessings
