Mama I Want To Play

Mama I Want to Play… with apologies to Frank Loesser

Layla, my puppy: I really can’t stay
Me: (But Layla I asked you to)
I wanna go play
(Oh puppy I’m begging you)
This sit and not run (you are so sweet)
is killing me
(I promise you a special treat)

I gotta just go, go, go
(Can’t you slow down just a bit?)
I’m not trying to make you mad
(Pup you always make me so glad)

I really can’t stay (can we try it again?)
Mama I want to play!

I’m just a young pup
(Layla, I know that’s true)
So please don’t give up
(Something I’d never do)
I’m trying so hard to learn the way
(And you get better every day!)

Oh, mama I love you so
(You are my special girl)
It’s just you and me I know
(I’m glad that you are part of my world)

I really can’t stay, mama I want to play
(I'll play with you today!}

beautiful write. I always enjoy poems that have animals in them. Thanks for making me smile.
