Make Believe

The lingering ghosts in our haunted minds Follow us throughout the pressing days Not just in the inevitable night As we lay awake scared in bed Reminding us of actions and revealing consequences We pretend it is make believe For the slightest feeling of relief Yet continue to burn bridges down Watching castles of effort crumble to the ground Observing the disturbing chaos all around Collecting treasures we have found If we take a minute standing amongst the deep rubble And destruction to look around We see the ghosts of consequence in their deathly form walking through our dreams Convincing ourselves it is all make believe.
