Magic At Midnight

Lying awake underneath a moonlit sky,
A young and restless soul sang as the hours crawled by.
Her small little feet high up on the wall,
Quiet now, with parents sleeping just down the hall.

Alone and unable to shut her wide, blue eyes,
She thought of gowns, balls, and villains in disguise.
When the clock in the hall struck midnight,
Her imagination awoke and seemed to take flight.

Stars began to shoot across the sparkling sky,
And the moon began to smile far up high.
Friendly fairies with wings of thin gold,
Giggled as the magic began to unfold.

One wore a royal shade of blue,
And her green eyes resembled grass blanketed by glistening dew.
Another wore purple with straight locks,
Of flowing blonde hair and she carried with her a small box.

"Inside," she whispered with mischievous eyes,
"Is magic's every spell, the truths, and the lies."
The child muttered words of pure ecstatic joy,
And accepted the rare gift as she might a new toy.

Her auburn red curls bounced in her excitement,
That as the box opened was replaced by amazement.
From it emerged a vibrant light, seemingly every color at once,
A light that promised to fulfill all of her wants.

In all the fun and games that sun began to rise,
And the magic began to fade before her saddened blue eyes.
Across the sky, Dawn painted orange, red, and pink,
And the tiny little girl had not slept a wink.
