Mad Dog Milt - Return To Soup Creek

As Mad Dog Milt wanders back into the town
Caressing his trigger, his face wears a frown
Six months in the hills but it’s time to return
And somebody somewhere is going to burn

Six months of life as a hilltop rambler
He ain’t gonna hang for shooting that gambler
Who’d pulled a gun due to the rat that he smelt
But sometimes four aces is what you get dealt

The town hadn’t known he was Mad Dog before
Till he cut that man down with a super-fast draw
For the man called him cheat and Milt’s patience eroded
But how could he know the man’s gun wasn’t loaded

Living for months under moon and hot sun
Freezing or roasting was no kinda fun
He’d asked himself questions but now had just one
What kind of man pulls an unloaded gun

He pondered that night in the Soup Creek Saloon
He vowed that his next shot was destined for June
His victim had loaded his gun, without doubt
And Milt now knew Floozy June emptied it out

                           *

That night she had offered herself for the taking
But Milt was a gambler with money for making
He’d said she was pretty, real nice on the eye
But she should go make eyes at some other guy

And so when his victim lay dead on floor
She’d made sure his gun wasn’t full any more
That was her way of avenging her honour
She’d grinned knowing Mad Dog would soon be a gonner

                           *

The saloon bar is busy and Milt draws his gun
“June’s leaving town due to what she has done,
I can’t kill a woman and that’s a darned choker
So I’m gonna have me some whiskey and poker.”

But June grabs a rifle from under the bar
She takes aim but that doesn’t get her too far
The rifle misfires as the sheriff walks in
So with June sat in jail, Mad Dog Milt plays to win

Sorry I got Tom and Mark mixed up. Tom's the mayor is this here town! When you're focusing on your cards, it's hard to focus on other important things.

Thanks, Ilene. To be completely truthful, I’m always a little reticent regarding hijacking Tom’s/Jenna’s saga. It’s why I don’t kill anyone off or reshape any existing storyline. Basically, when my own tale is told, Soup Creek is as it was before I started. Actually, in trying to ascertain a certain ‘Jim’s’ identity, i searched ‘Soup Creek’ and was astounded at how many contributors/collaborators there have been. I’m glad you enjoyed this episode and pleased to see that Tom hasn’t abandoned his town.

Soup Creek is a registered brand and you're in breach of copyright lol. Only joking, the monster I created is growing and growing. I'm honoured that it's inspired others to continue the story of Soup Creek. Who the hell is June? Tom

Don't worry about June, you're allowed poetic license lol.

As mentioned to Jenna, I thought long and hard about ‘June’ as I wanted a name I couldn’t recall seeing on Soup (I’m not in the habit of calling ladies ‘floozies’). Gonna check out ‘Unwelcome visitor’ shortly.

There was another incident where some lowlife made light of those that perished on 9/11. (an unwelcome visitor in Soup Creek) check it out.

(chuckling) A gambler ALWAYS plays to win, Terry. I must say I'm a little confused, but then I have been gone for a while. I wondered when Sheriff Tom was going to show, 'cause he keeps a close eye on the saloon...and the pretty ladies, too.

I reckon Tom likes to play a hand or two himself and with you out of the picture he’s been cleaning up. I guess only the man himself can explain his absence. Unless he’s out searching for those that write slanderous things about his town. GULP!

I don't have any floozie's working in my saloon, so wherever June came from she'd better high tail her butt outta town, pronto, or I'll take a gun after her myself. Are you sure you got this story straight, Terry. Sounds far-fetched to me because I don't keep a rifle behind my bar.

I only hope there isn’t a ‘June’ on Soup who’ll take offence…. Otherwise she might go in search of that rifle. I guess that’s the risk you run when you sneak into someone else’s story. Guilty your honour! ;-)
