Lullaby

Sleep my baby your mother is near,
Keeping your dreams from sadness and fear;
Sunlight’s asleep and bringing night,
Sleep my baby the moon shines her light.

Slumber my darling it’s time to find rest,
Holding you close, your face to caress;
Sleep my baby for I’ll keep you warm,
Holding you close to keep you from harm.

Rest my darling; all the world is asleep,
In my arms your dreams I will keep;
Pray that the angels will shine grace upon you,
Sleep my darling, the hours are few.

Awaken my baby for dawn’s early ray,
Finds birds that sing of a bright new day;
Bringing the glow of dawn’s early light,
And chasing away darkness of night.

Sleep, Slumber, Rest and Awaken... marvelous composition. Rhyming and cadence are impeccable... I could see myself so many years ago, in my rocking chair, singing my son to sleep with these soothing words and gentle rhythms. BRAVO Elizabeth!

Dear Elizabeth, you truly are an amazing writer. I could feel the love of this mother singing to her baby. Beautiful images and quite a brilliant character portrait! Hope you'll consider entering some of the contests members here hold, although it seems you already have lots of inspiration. For those who have been here a while, the contests inspire us. Just love your poetic grace and style, Carolyn

Thank you Carol, I have come back from losing my memory for five years when I didn't realize who I was or where I was. I never wrote before but for the last 6 months have been doing so and love it. It gives me such pleasure to hear what others think and you have been so kind in your comments. Thank you.
