Lucky

A new guest in my home was recently welcomed.
He's not a person, he's a terrapin.
Lucky is the name I have given him
because he was lucky I was around when I rescued him.
By the trash in a small fish bowl is where I found him.
His owners must have gotten bored with him.
This is one reason why I find people so discouraging.
Why couldn't they have simply released him?
I don't plan on keeping Lucky indefinitely.
When he's grown large enough to fend for himself, I'll set him free.

Do you know the story, "The Lathe of Heaven?" You could name him George Orr.
