Love's Patience

Love is like a brain,
like a mind of constant pain.
An overwhelming happiness,
enveloped with fears and strain.

A pulse inside your temple,
that never stops upon the start.
It's the beating one endures,
like the beating of your heart.

It's lying on your pillow,
alone, cradling, in the night.
Dreams filled with many colors,
yet waking to black and white.

It's repeating mundane tasks,
forcing distraction from the tide.
Grasping for ways to pass the time,
from longing to be by their side.

But more than the rest it's patience.
A virtue I'll never understand.
What good can come from waiting here...
without your palm pressed in my hand.
