Lovelorn

I got up from her side
and left her in a manner
she would stop me;

I turned and walked away…
She did not stop me
Neither did she call me back.

Step after faltering step,
I kept wandering away from her,
At each step hoping
She would stop me,
Hoping at any moment
She would call me back –
But I kept on going
drifting away from her
until I was near her no more.

Oh, she did not stop me
Neither did she call me back.

At every turn I stopped,
Struggled awhile to wait,
Floundered hopelessly
then moved on—
forever torn asunder from her!

Not until then did I realize,
    How sick at heart I was
    How gravely hurt I was
    How intensely I missed her

Alas, she did not stop me,
She did not call me back.
