Love, the Teacher

If Love is real and does exist,
I may have met her once or twice,
Her message seeming always this:
"Know thyself or pay the price"

For love is always first and foremost,
A teacher of the heart,
And if of bliss a fool should boast,
A painful lesson she’ll impart

But in her ways, though harsh they seem,
The seed of virtue slowly sprouts,
And grows the tree of wisdom deep,
Sustaining you through heavy droughts

For love does not exist to charm,
Or merely to cause pain and tears;
Like others, she is there to teach
The ones who have the ears to hear.
