Notes About The Poem

this poem is about a young couple, he was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer that took his life within six months -- she journeys on -- one day at a time.  I believe we have all been touched by cancer -- either ourselves or people we care about.   These are courageous people  . . .

Love Journey

holding hands we wait
                      exams, tests, procedures --- wait
                                                 tears, terror, faith --  love

       final hug – goodbye
                      death . . . tears . . . family . . . alone . . .
                                                 short breaths . . . darkness . . . lost

       deep hurt slow healing
                       light . . . sun . . . wind-warmth . . . a thawing
                                                  love memories --- life

       small firm steps forward 
                       good days, bad days . . . love calling
                                                  acceptance . . . peace . . . hope

       laughter erupting 
                       friends, work, a love passion -- dream
                                                  searching for a cure




For those who have been touched by cancer -- the strong and courageous.
