Love, Italian Style

A final stance, a wave goodbye
One more stuck moment and she'd cry
She steadied herself on two flat rocks
her platform shoes scuffed with life's knocks
and held her kerchief in the air
The boys on the mainland brightly stare
Her ink waved hair of tar shine black
Her collarbone alabaster
Her mother is to thank for that
Her backbone's from her father
The boys know now she's a fine glass bubble
Love glazed her over, her eyes taken slip
To attempt to court her would only be trouble
Her heart left with him on the last day's ship
A final stance, a wave goodbye
Her face bone sunk, about to cry
Her little island filled with boys
and tinseled nights to dance, enjoy
But her aching shoes would forever stand
and wait with ardor for her love, this man...
