Love In Vain

Oh how it was such a frigid night as the snowstorm blanketed all
Covering everything in sight just about the worse that I ever saw
Holding a child in her hand with the other signaling the conductor
The map she couldn't understand and of her stop she was unsure

Again and again she would question, as each time he walked by
And so all along that run until she caught a nice salesman's eye
"I often travel this way and this storm it's not really a big deal
When your stop comes I will say", as for the two he could truly feel

And finally their stop was here as he helped them to exit the train
His good intentions clear even as snow now turned to freezing rain
A few miles down the track as the heavy snow again began falling
That conductor again came back as for her station he was calling

"The last stop was not our norm as we had to stop to clear some debris
Things have deteriorated in this storm, that young lady, where is she?"
The salesman at a loss for even a word started crying out in dismay
Be vigilant in that of what you've heard for there is only but One Way
