Love In Ashes

A distant scream,
the future cries,
our past to burn
unclaimed

Predictions simmer,
forecasts stir,
denials rage
enflamed

All promise broken,
hearts on fire,
reasons singed with
pain

With love in ashes,
hope to scald,
and freedom left
—in shame
