Love

Dearest
Dare I love you?
or say as much
 I ‘am not that brave
for I know, I may lose you
 before I go
that pain, I already know
if not, and I go first
the pain and loss
 will be the same
 why
the fear and guilt
make me stand alone
I cannot say
 but I do know,
 It’s because I’m afraid
Of a broken heart
To tell you so.
you showed me
happiness and fun
and gave me
 children I had to love
 and the need
 to accept the fear
 and love anyway
