Lost Poem

Did you ever sit down to write a verse
and then suddenly as quick as it came, it burst,
and then, it's gone, dispersed?

Some inspired thought for song or poem
that felt just right and flowed easily along
then slipped away, lost burn.

Perhaps, the thought that sparked
was too quickly lit and failed to catch the fires heart,
doused and quickly extinguished the mark.

Silent, alone and pondering its recovery
the attempt remains lost without discovery
of the poetic flow still hovering.

Newer words formulate the idea laid
but don't quite meet the price cost and paid
and the poem penned has strayed.
