Lost In Silence

Inside a pocket, purse, or hand-
our lifelines, charged we're set to go.
The whole world's at our fingertips
to take us anywhere we wish.

Through texts and social media-
we interact with friends or guests
in every place around the world-
but, never plainly, eye-to-eye-

Only by word-to-word; the real
togetherness- a world away.
The sound of silence, ringing loud
but for the tapping of the keys.

Gods of technology spoiled us
with new existence on lit screens,
magnetically held steadfast
by magic, we can't live, without.

We wander in that world alone;
though side-by-side-together at
our parties, meetings- even worse-
besides that special one, we love.

Gods of technology trapped us
within this sound of silence; held,
locked up and mentally confined-
behind our shiny, flat smartphones.
