Lost For Words

What happens to words that are no longer in use. Do they become obsolete, Passe? Had their day, Or do they lay gathering dust somewhere Out there, Waiting for a curious mind, To find, Some of them for an encore, Bringing them back into Vogue, Once more.

I think they are waiting for you and me Shirley. Which is why I flip through a dictionary when I decide to write poems.

I love words but I quickly forget them. Words go out of fashion too. When I was young, Smashing was a word that was used to express something good ( Blimey was thought of as swearing)

I think they are still in use by old folks like me.. Sometimes I'm told by other poets they had to look up a word I used because you never hear it anymore. The English language is so much fun because their are so many ways to say the same thing. That's also the reason why it's one of the hardest languages to learn. A very clever observation here. Nicely dohne. God Bless, JB

As I do genealogy, my dictionaries are next to my computer as I am forever looking up old words, especially those defining occupations! Enjoyed!

Words fascinate me. I have looked up my ancestry and found the site very interesting. I have come to the conclusion that if we had the time and lived long enough we would find that we are all related. I found out my husband is also my third cousin. Thank you, Rico, for commenting on the poem.
