Lost

The small band of travellers struggled on
they had been lost for days in the dunes
driven nearly mad by thirst and heat
and flickering mirages of fresh cool water

Pangs of hunger long gone in their need
for even a single gulp of life saving water
at last reaching the top of the sand dune
they rubbed their eyes and looked again

Yes it really was an oasis not a dream
tumbling down the dune in their haste
at last they reached the small pool
carefully they took a few sips then more

Knowing how close it had been
they rejoiced and gave thanks
soon a fine settlement appeared
and the travellers prospered there

They had fought through their ordeal
learned that life is unpredictable
yet with each other they conquered
and found new hope and new meaning

We are all travellers who choose different paths in life; some get lost, but do not give up....for these salvation lies awaiting. // was a pleasure to read. // paul

We never sure what the next moment will bring in our way! You have captured this concept very well in this adventure of yours. Nicely done dear Shadow!
