Lost

I lost that opportunity to learn through gentle play.

As a child, I never knew the urgency to turn out a certain way.

The doctors would glance at the clock.

And claim that there was no treatment in stock.

All I knew was that I was being unheard.

While all the others whispered about me in herds.

My parents believed there was nothing left in me to revive.

That all those years ago, I never learned to strive.

What they don’t know is that my focus exists, but is jumbled.

And that I wanted to be included, but always stumbled.

After all these years, I am finally accepting of the toll.

Of learning that even with all the advances, it is too late for my soul.
