Lost

The water calls out
Needing to take your hand
But I know how it ends
So come back to dry land.

Drifting out further
You can’t feel the bottom
Tears mixed with waves
The moment’s getting solemn.

The ocean hugs tightly
You don’t want it to let go
I beg you to come to me
But you’re not done though.

The horizon tempts you
The shore is too safe
I throw you a lifeline
And urge you to have faith.

Your view is beautiful
Hypnotic and enticing
I stare in disbelief
At all you’re sacrificing.

I’ve done all I could
Trying to protect you
We all saw the potential
Everyone except you.
