Loss of Faith

A silent flicker in my soul –
A dying flame to give me light;
Not fire enough to feed the coals,
Yet I am strengthened by its might

The maker of such little fire,
Is but to me a distant ire
Who cannot penetrate this shield,
Though ancient flaming sword he wields,

For I have pierced the heart of faith,
And cast it on the bitter ground –
A pearl trampled evermore
By swine that mock the wretched crown

And as I wander hopelessly
Through caverns of despair,
I search for warmth unceasingly,
But find stone hearts that cannot care

This solitude seems but a curse
When I have not the eyes to see
What glory I have left behind
To face this harsh reality.
