Looking Back
When looking back over the many years
With three quarters of a century’s worth
Many years filled with joy, some filled with tears
Always filled with hope, and a tinge of mirth.
I have seen the advent of many things
TV and cell phones from a satellite
We walked on the moon, and saw Saturn’s rings
Peered deep in our cells with a special light.
Went to war, found peace, and then war again
The internet robbed us of our privacy
As people all over the world chimed in
Not just with humor, but with lunacy!
But in all these years one thing is the same
We looked for love in our own special way
From our family, pets, friends, or seeking fame
Or writing poems when we’d something to say.
I cannot believe that I’ve lived so long
I’ve seen the world change, for better or worse
I heard each moment as notes in a song
Lived life as a book, both chapter and verse.
