Look In the Mirror

Look in the mirror
Is there a face or a heart
Gaze at the reflection
  Is it merciful or smart

The mirror never lies
  One's fate it reveals
Turn away and you risk
  Your verdict's been sealed

I look in the mirror expecting to see a twelve-year-old-girl with freckles on her nose, and I think "who is that old woman?" and I look closer at my eyes, for I have a cottage cheese-like growth in one, and I am supposed to keep an eye on it. I think "poor you, the color is fading. Pretty soon you will disappear," then I smile and I recognize a bit more of myself and I say "Hi, Dad," for I look exactly like my Daddy; same eyes, nose and smile.

I feel as if I've just invaded the space between you and your mirror. Thanks for the bird's-eye-view. I'm not quite there yet, myself, but I'm definitely gaining on it... Somehow, it's all good!! :) gw

A clever write as always, you always think of things, people or events in life that will have meaning to others, and you run with it and a whopper of a poem you always come up with! Well done Gershon. Hugs, Jennifer.

Jennifer, how much do I owe you for praise like this?! Seriously, I can hardly believe that you have written these words for free. You have certainly made my day, and my week!! Can't thank you enough. Best wishes, Gershon

The eyes being the light of the soul reflected in the mirror tell the truth of what's going on inside. A deep, thoughtful poem.

I don’t know what one sees when they are vicious except I think they avoid their own eyes!

I think so too; others are revulsed by the truth of the reflection staring back at them. Thank you for all of your encouragement, Kim! :) gw
