Look Around
Look around you; the world is changing fast;
as frustrations are morphing into hate.
Coronavirus has left folks downcast;
they're told to hide behind a mask or wait
it out at home, a house-arrest inmate.
If you recall, it seems, but yesterday;
that the world held so much promise for youth.
Yet, everything is different today,
and the reason why doesn't require a sleuth;
alternative realities trump truth.
The worldwide web has caught our hopes and dreams;
in the fantasy fibers of its net.
And cute emojis repress silent screams;
for thousands of friends are easy to get,
yet easy to lose; that's the constant threat.
Social media puts lies on display;
when you enter their conspiracy world.
And friends never get together to play;
they've become players in a netherworld,
a computer-generated dreamworld.
