Longing for cake

New love is like wanting to go home And longing all day Longing, for that last piece of cake You left in the fridge to stay Waiting for you and Giving joy with every bite And it tastes even better Because you’ve thought about it all night And just like new love, there’s also uncertainty Will it still be there? You say to yourself, “Please let it be,” “Don’t be eaten or expired, don’t you dare.” You must let go, keep a little faith But hold space for the possibility That there’s no cake, nor another date
