Longing for cake

New love is like wanting to go home
And longing all day

Longing, for that last piece of cake
You left in the fridge to stay

Waiting for you and
Giving joy with every bite

And it tastes even better
Because you’ve thought about it all night

And just like new love, there’s also uncertainty
Will it still be there?

You say to yourself, “Please let it be,”
“Don’t be eaten or expired, don’t you dare.”

You must let go, keep a little faith
But hold space for the possibility
That there’s no cake, nor another date

Thanks for sharing your thoughts through your unique poetic style. Welcome to Poetry Soup. I welcome you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.
