Loneliness

You ask,

Why is so much grief in my poetry?

Grief in my poems, tears in my eyes and heart,

Pain in my soul,

Because of someone who is in love with me.

His name is Loneliness.

He always goes with me.

I do not love him; I do not want to know

anything about him.

I do not want to see him at all

or to hear about him!

I want to escape –

But he runs with me again.

I try to frighten him by my laughter!

He is daring, insists I must go with him.

But I resist and run instead

to you, my beloved.
