Loneliness

It creeps into your soul like a thief in the night Surrounding you, drowning you It gets its claws in tight Pulling you under Making you weep You toss and you turn And you just can't sleep It makes you melancholy For things that just can't be Teasing you, freezing you It's something you can't see A roomful of people, friends, family It makes you shut them out Shows you what can't be It permeates your heart Makes it heavy, feels like lead It turns you inside out It makes you wish that you were dead It's hateful and it's spiteful Twisting every turn It paralyzes you, cries out to you Knowing you'll never learn It sings sad songs while you cry Praying for relief It doesn't have a soul As you wallow in your grief Head hung low, tears in your eyes It laughs at your misery It mocks your mournful cries It feeds on your broken heart Growing stronger every day Belittling you, killing you Wanting nothing but to stay
