Loneliness
Loneliness
What is loneliness?
Is it the bitterness memory
of a love gone awry?
Some say loneliness is
a train whistle that cries;
the pattering of raindrops
falling softly from the sky,
Some say loneliness is
the passing of the night
sweeping shadows over the landscape
erasing familiarity from sight
Some say loneliness is
the call of the lark
singing sweetly out of tune;
a whispered goodbye from
the shadows of the moon
Is it dying lightening streaks?
Empty mountain peaks?
Or is loneliness the salty taste
of teardrops on my cheeks?
