Lone Pillar No More
For so long, you thought you were
Alone in this forsaken land
Not because in a plain
Alone you always stand
But because there was no room
For your own raging emotions
In the war ground of our
Fear-stricken destruction.
So you often ignored your pain
Just to help us fight our demons;
You ignored your aching heart
To free us from our prisons;
And so as you helped us in battle,
Your demons found you weak
Bit by bit, without our knowledge,
Your heart and spirit began to break---
And yet you forced a smile
Despite the crushing weight;
You endured it all alone:
The pain, the fear, the hate---
But no longer, because we still
Are here and by your side,
We who you chose to protect
And always unfailingly guide;
We are willing to share your pain
Like you have ours before,
So from this day, on our lives we vow,
You are a lone pillar no more.
