Lone Lily

I had tea under a balcony,
and admired the roses
cascading down
graciously

A lone lily
awaiting water...
I breathed in its cool fragrance
before leaving

By mistake
I left my coat
draped like an "el" on its side
over the white chair

The servant said she saw a tramp
with it two nights later,
and he did not smell of
roses or the lily

I have forgiven him,
for what is his life against mine,
singing of roses
and remembering lone lily?
